Seating Chart App

There is no app to install, and that is deliberate rather than a shortcoming. RH Seating runs in the browser already on your phone, which means the plan is reachable from the venue floor without anyone downloading anything, updating anything, or discovering at 5pm that the app store account is on a different phone.

If you came here looking for something from the App Store, this page is the argument for why a browser is the better answer for this particular job. It is a short argument, and you can settle it faster by opening the free seating chart maker on the phone you are holding.

Works in your browser, no download

A native seating app has to be installed by the person who needs it, at the moment they need it, on the device they happen to be holding. On a wedding day that person is often the venue coordinator or a family member who has never heard of the tool, standing in a room with poor signal.

A URL has none of those problems. Send the link, they open it, they are in. The same is true of the guest-facing page - guests scan a code and land in a browser, with no install step between them and their table number.

The one thing a native app would give you is a home screen icon, and both iOS and Android will add one for a website if you ask them to.

Editing on the day

The plan almost always changes on the day. Someone does not turn up, a table is short a chair, the venue has set the room slightly differently from the drawing.

On a phone the useful edits are the small ones: move a guest, swap two people, mark a table as unavailable. The canvas supports dragging on touch, but the faster path on a small screen is the guest list - find the name, change the table, done.

Whoever is running the door sees the change immediately, because they are reading the same live plan rather than a printout. That workflow has its own page: the event check-in app.

What happens when the venue wifi fails

Honest answer: an edit you make while the connection is down stays in the open editor and its retry queue, then sends when the connection returns. Keep that tab open until the editor reports the save; reloading an unsaved online event is not an offline workflow.

What does not work offline is a guest looking themselves up, because that lookup reaches our servers. If the venue signal is genuinely unreliable, print a backup chart or a set of escort cards - the plan can produce both - and treat the QR code as the fast path rather than the only path.

Anyone who tells you their seating tool works fully offline is describing something that has been downloaded in advance onto the specific phone that will be used. It is worth asking which phone.

The rule that has never failed anyone: one printed fallback at the door, and the QR code for everybody else.

Guest-facing QR lookup

The half of this that guests actually touch is a single page: scan, type a few letters of your name, see your table. It is built for a phone held one-handed in a queue, which is a genuinely different design problem from the planning canvas.

Details, including what guests see and what they do not, are on QR code seating chart.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an iPhone or Android app to download?

No, and there is no plan for one. The tool runs in mobile Safari and Chrome, which means anyone you send the link to can open it immediately without an install. Both phones will add a home screen icon for it if you want one.

Can I drag tables around on a phone screen?

Yes, the canvas supports touch. In practice the faster way to make a change on a small screen is through the guest list rather than the canvas, and both edit the same plan.

Does it work offline?

Edits remain in the open editor and retry when the connection returns. Keep the tab open until the save completes. Guest lookups need a connection, so keep a printed fallback if the venue signal is unreliable.

Do guests need the app?

There is nothing for guests to install. They scan a QR code and search their name in a browser.

Open it on your phone right now.

That is the whole test. If it works on the device in your hand, it works at the venue.
